TOP POTENTIAL MULTI-DOMAIN OPERATIONS INNOVATORS ADVANCE TO JADC2 DEMO EVENT

Top Potential Multi-Domain Operations Innovators Advance to JADC2 Demo Event

Las Vegas—Thirty exhibitors were recognized for their efforts toward making the U.S. Air Force more lethal, efficient, and effective across air, space, cyber, land, and sea environments at the 2019 AFWERX Fusion Xperience on July 23-24 at the 75,000-square-foot Enclave event center. These exhibitors are now advancing to a special invite-only “pitch day” this June 2020, regarding a top Air Force priority to find real-world solutions to “Multi-Domain Operations” (MDO). Formerly known as MDO, this AFWERX Challenge has been rebranded to the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) Challenge.

Earlier last year, the online AFWERX JADC2 Challenge solicited a record-breaking 317 proposals for existing, commercially available concepts that might be applicable to the high-profile, high-concept Air Force problem set. From these, participants for an “AFWERX JADC2 Showcase” of 115 vendors provided access to evaluators and fellow innovators concurrent to the 2019 Fusion Xperience.

U.S. Air Force Col. Randy “Laz” Gordon (pictured top right), test and evaluation lead for AFWERX Vegas, spoke to a sold-out audience of 1,200 registered innovators from the military, business, academia, investment and more at the 2019 AFWERX Fusion Xperience held last July. The annual event includes speakers, panels, and product showcases focused on solving U.S. Air Force priorities with existing commercial products and concepts. Last year’s Fusion Xperience featured more than 115 exhibitors. Registration for the AFWERX Fusion 2020 event is anticipated to go live in the upcoming weeks and will be a digital three-day event.

“Our evaluators come from the military, industry, investment, and academia,” says Mark Rowland, Innovation Actualizer for AFWERX Vegas. “The showcase format creates an atmosphere of collaboration, in which concepts can be shared among attendees while also protecting Intellectual Property resources. Often, participants end up partnering up to multiply their individual capabilities and capacities. Generally, AFWERX Vegas efforts are focused on providing purchasable solutions to Air Force problems within 12- to 18-month timeframes.”

Thirty innovators have since been invited to the JADC2 Virtual Demonstration Event taking place online this June 2020 and reserved for government stakeholders only. There, they’ll be put to the test in front of an online audience of Air Force stakeholders. Recognized with invitations are (in alphabetical order, with public-facing hyperlinks as available):

The AFWERX Vegas Innovation Hub was started in 2017 and is funded by the U.S. Air Force to support outreach to the business and academic communities. The location is one of three AFWERX Innovation Hubs—the others are in Austin, Texas and the District of Columbia. Each serves as a nexus for generating and hosting activities—whether on-site, online, or on-base—focused on delivering design solutions to Air Force problems faster, more effectively, and more efficiently than in the past.

“[The] AFWERX Fusion event is a great example on how other government agencies should be embracing technology, entrepreneurs and academia to rapidly prototype and solve some of the greatest challenges we are facing in this country and abroad,” says Pamela Norton, chief executive officer and founder of Borsetta, one of the 30 finalists. “The Fusion event was professional, objective, informative and a great collaborative platform that is bringing together our military, solutions providers, technologists and academia into an open environment to make this country and our world a better place!”

As envisioned by U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson in 2017, AFWERX is intended to solve some of the toughest challenges that the Air Force faces in an “outside the fence” environment, through innovation and collaboration amongst our nation’s top subject-matter experts.
