WE NEED YOUR INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS!

The airfield, a vital component to any United States Air Force (USAF) base, is an area of land set aside for takeoff, landing, and aircraft maintenance. Maintaining airfield security is crucial to withholding a strategic offensive and defensive edge. However, aerial threats, including civilian and enemy drones, cause operational interferences and disruptions, lead to scheduling delays and contribute to excess use of Air Force resources. How can we better secure the flightline and help USAF airmen and maintainers stay ahead of the curve?

As one of three challenges focused on Revolutionizing USAF Flightline Operations, this challenge is seeking solutions from business, academia, industry, and government to improve flightline security measures for permanent and temporary bases. The challenge’s specific focus areas include eliminating Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and subsequent data leaks caused by unauthorized surveillance and leveraging automation to strengthen the airfield perimeter security and streamline manual processes. Another primary focus area is improving flightline access and control without inconveniencing authorized personnel and enhancing threat detection and management. The goal is to implement solutions that meet or exceed the challenge criteria within a 12-24 month period.
